Wise vs Payoneer for Ad Network Payouts: Fees, Speed, and Which One to Open
Both give you US dollar account details so networks pay you like a US bank customer. They differ on what receiving and converting cost, and where they are available.
Why you need one of these at all
AdMob, AppLovin MAX, Unity Ads, ironSource, and every web network worth joining pays in US dollars. If your bank account is in another currency, that money gets converted somewhere, and the conversion is where most developers outside the US quietly lose 5 to 10% of their ad revenue: a USD wire into a local bank picks up intermediary fees on the way and a poor exchange rate on arrival.
Wise and Payoneer fix the same problem the same way. Each gives you US dollar account details in your own name, so a network pays you like a US bank customer. You hold the dollars, then convert to your currency when you want, at a fee that is a fraction of what a bank charges. The differences are in what receiving costs, what converting costs, and where each one is available. The AdMob payments guide covers the network side; this one covers the account.
What each one is
Wise
Formerly TransferWise. A multi-currency account with local account details in USD, EUR, GBP and several other currencies, a debit card, and conversion at the mid-market rate plus a stated fee. Personal and business accounts. Built for individuals and small businesses moving money across borders.
Payoneer
A cross-border payments company built around freelancers, marketplace sellers and businesses being paid by companies abroad. It provides receiving accounts in USD, EUR, GBP and other currencies, and withdrawal to a local bank in more than 190 countries. Amazon, Upwork, Fiverr and many ad networks pay into it directly.
Receiving money
| Payment type | Wise | Payoneer |
|---|---|---|
| USD by ACH or domestic transfer | Free | About 1% when paid by a company; free from other Payoneer users |
| USD by wire or SWIFT | $6.11 per payment | Typically no Payoneer fee; sending and intermediary bank fees still apply |
| Account details | Free | Free |
Which row applies depends on how the network sends. AppLovin, Unity and ironSource pay through Tipalti, which can send by ACH to US account details, so those land free at Wise and at about 1% at Payoneer. AdMob wires internationally, so a $6.11 fee at Wise or the bank-side fees at Payoneer apply; if your payee country supports EFT to a USD account, that is the free route.
Converting and withdrawing
This is where the money is made or lost. Both use a rate close to the real exchange rate, but the fee on top differs:
- Wise converts at the mid-market rate and charges a visible fee that depends on the currency pair, roughly 0.4% to 2% for the common routes. Withdrawing to your own bank in the same currency is free or close to it.
- Payoneer adds up to 2% to the exchange rate when you withdraw to a local bank in another currency, with the exact markup varying by country. Withdrawing USD to a US bank in the same currency costs $1.50 per transfer under $50,000 a month.
Account fees
Wise has no fee to hold an account. Payoneer charges $29.95 a year if the account received less than $2,000 in the previous twelve months, which matters for an app earning its first few hundred dollars.
A worked example
Take a $500 monthly AdMob payment to a developer whose bank is in euros, with typical fees as of September 2026:
| Route | Fees on the way | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| USD wire to a local bank | $25 intermediary + about 3% exchange markup | About $460 |
| Wise | $6.11 incoming wire + about 0.5% conversion | About $491 |
| Payoneer | Bank-side wire fees if any + up to 2% conversion | About $475 to $490 |
The spread between the worst and best route is about $30 a month on $500, which is 6% of the revenue. That compounds every month for the life of the app, and it is the easiest 6% you will ever earn.
Network compatibility
Both work with every major network, with one nuance each. AdMob lets you add wire details for either; whether it offers EFT into them depends on the country on your payee profile, so check the payment method list after you pass the $10 balance. Tipalti, which AppLovin, Unity and ironSource use, accepts US account details from both and also PayPal. Register the account in the same legal name as your network account; mismatched names are the one thing that reliably gets a payout held.
Which one to open
- Open Wise if it is available in your country and you want the lowest total fees and no annual charge. For most developers this is the answer.
- Open Payoneer if Wise does not serve your country, if you are also paid by marketplaces that pay into Payoneer directly, or if you need withdrawal to a local bank Wise cannot reach.
- Both is common and costs nothing while the Payoneer account is above $2,000 a year in receipts. Route each network to whichever is cheaper for how that network sends.
Fees and availability change. The figures here were checked in September 2026; confirm them on each provider’s fee page before you rely on a number.

Open the account before the first payout lands
Both are free to open. Set one up while the network review runs so the first payment has somewhere cheap to go.
Gives you USD, EUR and GBP account details that ad networks can pay into by bank transfer, then converts at the mid-market rate. The usual choice for developers paid from outside their home currency.
A receiving account that accepts network payouts in USD and other currencies, with local withdrawal in 190+ countries. Common among AdMob and AppLovin publishers outside the US.
